 CONSUMERISM

I was really amazed by "the story of stuff" film (Creative Commons, 2013). Annie Leonard made the point that individuals nowadays are subjected to a variety of forms of propaganda and pushed to acquire a variety of goods, whether or not they are necessary. As a result, consumerism developed. In actuality, this phenomena is also present in Hong Kong, Malaysia and more other country particularly with regard to online shopping.

The items displayed on the web are with a very attractive price; some clothes can be purchased by just RM5 to RM20, even add on the cost of shipping is only costing about RM4,90. Shoppe, Lazada, and Shein are new and popular online shopping platforms among Malaysians.

Sincerously, I am also a regular shopper. However, after viewing thiS video, I would think twice before making a decision to buy new clothing or accessories going forward since I no longer want to gravely burden our beautiful and only planet.

In my view, I am aware that I may consume excessive amounts of meat, such as beef, hog, and chicken, but if I want to consume such meat, it must be transported from another state. Where our food is grown is one of the factors that goes into calculating our carbon footprint, which means that if the food is not produced or cultivated locally, transportation is required. In any case, I must consume less meat in order to lower my methane emissions. In addition to the aforementioned component, various lifestyle choices have to be made. For instance, every year I replace my cell phone. There would unquestionably need to be a shift. I'm very certain that I switched phones as a result of heavy advertising. I am aware of how consumed I am by materialism.

Every time I get a new phone, it is not because my old one broke down but rather because a new one was released. I understand that if I kick this terrible habit, not only will I be able to save more money, but the world as well.

Even if developed places are now stealing resources from developing nations, those nations continue to claim that their actions are assisting other nations in developing their economies. This is only a scheme to defraud the developing countries. Due to the fact that most companies have relocated to developing nations where labour costs are extremely low and regulations are lax, western nations use several measures to deplete the natural capital in these nations, including using large amounts of energy and raw materials.

Actually, we just like killing ourselves until one day we find nowhere to dispose our trash. Changing our lifestyle is not an option but a must before it is too late.
